Assertiveness Practice : Participants will demonstrate assertiveness skills by engaging in activities that focus on advocating for their child’s needs in educational, healthcare, and community settings. 4. Reflection and Group Discussion : Participants will share insights on communication strategies, identify barriers to effective communication, and discuss strategies for improving interactions within their support system. 5. Identify and Understand Rights/Resources : Participants will identify and discuss available rights and resources for children with disabilities and their families, and how to access them within their community. 6. Conflict Resolution Strategies : Participants will learn and discuss strategies for resolving conflicts in relationships and advocating for their child’s needs in a productive and positive way. INSTRUCTION 1. Introduction (10 minutes) • Face-to-Face: Welcome participants in person, briefly introduce the purpose, and outline the goals. • Online: Welcome participants in the virtual space, and use screen-sharing to display session objectives and purpose. 2. Worksheet Activity: "My Support System" (20 minutes) • Face-to-Face: Distribute worksheets and encourage participants to identify key figures in their support systems. • Online: Share the worksheet link in the chat, giving participants time to fill it out. Encourage them to reflect on their support network and note any areas for improvement. 3. Effective Communication Techniques (15 minutes) • Face-to-Face: Discuss techniques for communicating with children, healthcare professionals, and educators, using the whiteboard to list tips. • Online: Share a digital document or slideshow of communication tips, discussing each technique with examples. Use the chat or virtual whiteboard to capture additional ideas from participants. 4. Role-Playing and Assertiveness Practice (25 minutes) • Face-to-Face: Set up role-play scenarios, pairing participants or working in small groups.
