EP-II Training Curriculum: Lesson Plans.

Efficient Parenting – Lesson Plans Page 7 /170 General information Caring for a loved one, especially a child with a disability diagnosis, whether it's a developmental disability, a chronic illness, or any other condition, can be an emotionally challenging journey. Coping with diagnosis-related stress involves navigating a range of emotions and adapting to new realities. Unfortunately, in most countries the disabilities and related disorders (mental health disorders) are low priority, sometimes with no services in the community for treatment and well- being. The burden resulting from other associated afflictions -medical, psychosocial, and behavioural - are often enormous and are carried by the parents and other caregiver. Having a group discussion with parents about the differential diagnosis of their children can be a valuable opportunity to provide information, support, and clarity. LESSON OBJECTIVES The participant can/will... 1. Understand the concept of differential diagnosis and its role in identifying a child's medical condition. 2. Learn how to effectively communicate complex medical information to parents in a clear and empathetic manner. 3. Participate in a collaborative decision-making process, empowering parents in the care of their children. 4. Address parents' concerns, questions, and emotions with sensitivity and respect. 5. Identify the next steps in the diagnostic process and help parents navigate additional evaluations or tests. SUPPLIES What exactly is needed for this activity?
